AFTER SECURITY BLUNDER, FAA CLOSES AMERICAN'S JFK TERMINAL
It looks like the FAA is starting to keep a close watch on the people in charge of security at airports, in line with a crackdown ordered just this week by Transportation Secretary Norman Maneta. The FAA closed the American Airlines terminal at JFK for about two hours last night after officials saw that people were allowed to clear security even after alarms went off, according to accounts in the Associated Press and Reuters. The terminal was evacuated, passengers were pulled off two planes and eight flights were delayed. "I'm horrified they could be so lax in the first place,'' one passenger told AP. "What does it take? What has to happen for them to take it seriously?" American Airlines doesn't mention it on their web site this morning, but notes that their business in October was down 28 percent from a year ago.
