Tom Friedman ends his column on Spain's decision to withdraw its troops from Iraq by quoting Winston Churchill's reaction to Neville Chamberlain's fatal Hitler appeasement policy:
"You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor and you will have war."
