Transit Strike Begins

Transit Strike Begins

So this is kind of interesting. The head of the tranist union called for the strike at 3 a.m. And before 3:15 a.m., NYC.gov had this posted:
Due to a labor action by the City's transit workers, there is currently no MTA bus or subway service in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. In response, the City has implemented its strike contingency plan. ...
Nothing yet on the official word from the New York Times, which last updated an hour ago with sources saying the strike vote had been taken but wasn;t confirmed.

Nothing at all online at the NY Post, Daily News or Sun, though Newsday has a full staff story (also based on the early unofficial word,) but uses the headline "Transit Union Strikes."

Update: NYT now has this near the top of their website, though I suspect the timestamp is a little generous:
NEWS ALERT | 3:14 AM ET
Transit Union Strikes, Shutting New York City Subways and Buses
I subscribe to a bunch of e-mail news alerts and not one has sent an advisory about the strike yet.

I've been watching the whole thing unfold on NY1, which is like a local CNN or CNS, and blogging it over at NewYorkology (which got a 3 a.m. timestamp on the strike news, though it actually went live a few minutes later.)

Another Update:

3:26 a.m. MSNBC e-mail alert: "New York City's transit union called a strike."

3:41 a.m. CNN e-mail alert: "More than 30,000 New York City transit workers went on strike early Tuesday, shutting down nation's largest public transit system."
