A Red Hook wine bar

A Red Hook wine bar

Time Out's big cover story on Red Hook contained one juicy tidbit about the neighborhood: a new winebar called Tini is going to open sometime this month next door to LeNell's. Maybe in the space recently vacated by the pet food store?

Time Out says Monica Byrne, the former chef at Liberty Heights, is taking part -- which is certainly promising if she's the one responsible for the old Liberty Heights menu. (The current one is mainly pizzas and last time we went the only things available were plain cheese pizza or mozzarella sticks.)

"The newcomer will showcase artisanal cheeses and organic produce from the Red Hook Community Farm," according to Time Out.

Looks like I may have to update the NewYorkology Red Hook guide I put together prior to the opening of the cruise ship terminal. Plenty of changes in the works.

Somewhat related ... This Brooklyn Genealogy site has a saloon section which includes a copy of Jan. 17, 1926 story from the Brooklyn Standard Union detailing the locations and names of Brooklyn bars and what they were converted into during Prohibition. It's a very long list. Good reading, too.
