Red Hook, so very far

The New York Times oddly has a little story today about the "Where is Osama" sign in Red Hook. It says:
It is quiet evidence, all these years later and all these miles from ground zero, that someone remembers — and remembers and remembers.
How many miles?

That's 3.4 miles, according to Google Maps.

Maybe "all these miles" refers to how it feels if you're getting to Red Hook with the help of the B61 bus.
